A Day in Jammu

Here are the tweets that I started posting as I left Dharmashala for Jammu via Pathankot. Tweets stopped as I entered Jammu because there’s no internet service via phone in Jammu. The pre-paid phone connections didn’t work at all.

A lady on her way back home from the Vaishodevi pilgrimage. I didn’t go there as my mood was totally ruined by the guest house environment and the possibility of carrying the luggage on the 12 km hike up to the temple. There were more reasons than this but primarily my swinging mood. I was surprised that I didn’t go!

Now, this is a train, on way to Jammu from Pathankot. I managed to reach there just in time to catch this train. I had left Mcleod Gunj for Pathankot via Dharmashala in the morning. The busride upto Pathankot from Mcleod Ganj was about four hours.

Good morning Jammu! The hotel’s room stinking but it’s rooftop was okay for this much of photography. The view of the city from there was nice.

Can you see a train passing through below that smoke?

Another 3 hours, m in Pathankot. Hoping to catch a train to Jammu from there. Tires of buses.

This bus has drinking water ‘available’ inside. A gallon tied 2 d iron rod n cup behind driver’s seat. A guy tried 2 drink, bt no water

Entered The Punjab. @ Pathankot. Going to the Train Station. Bus stopped by Durga Festival celebration organizers. Or are they Transgender?

Wow, seems like I just made it on time for 4:30 train 2 Jammu. But m afraid d general compartment (Rs17) might look like Kumbha Mela. Phew!

General dibba crammed w/soldiers. Looks like m in war zone. No wonder m going 2 Jammu. Btw, saw Turbaned (Shikh) soldier 1st tym a while ago

@mpoudyal the yatra has just started (rain gods weren’t v happy while I was in Dharmashala). D feel in train’s certainly nicer den in bus 🙂

When in doubt abt train schedule never ask crowd. Almost missed dis train as I relied on a family dat’s waiting 4 dis train @ wrong platform

Stuck @ Madhepura station. Seems train’s waiting 4 signal. No chaiwallah coming around. I need a cup or two. Tibetan bread’s stopped working 6:13 PM Aug 31st from Echofon

This in a shop in the market near Jammu railway station. Bought some okhar that were later proved substandard. But I don’t complain.

Now this inside the train on way to Pathankot. Some of the fellow passengers were Vaishnodevi temple pilgrims from Bihar.

After the darshan of Goddess Vaishodevi, this pilgrim enjoys the train ride back to her home in Bihar.
